Winners in Maastricht
Great News from Maastricht where the lads have won the final round of the European Shield. They managed to stay unbeaten through the group stages and then beat the actual Shield holders Copenhagen in the semi final to set up a final against the host team. A low scoring nervy final saw Valencia win courtesy of an Andy White goal. Congratulations must also go to Hector "Hit me" Cook on winning the tournament MVP at his first competitive tournament. Congratulations to the Ladies team on recording their first victory against the Barcelona Ladies. The girls will be keen to build on this victory for the 2009 season. Said team Captain Deirdre O´Driscoll "We are delighted to have earned the victory that all our hard work in training throughout the year deserved, and can't wait for the 2009 season." Also, well done to the lads who narrowly lost out to Barcelona by a single point before beating Valls.

This weekend sees a tournament take place in Tarragona. In the Mens competition, three teams in total will take part - Valencia, Barcelona & Valls - with each team playing each other once. The Ladies competition will see Valencia take on Barcelona twice. Though billed as a friendly tournament, this weekend will be the first time some of the lads will start a match in Valencia colors and it is certain that they will be keen to get off to a winning start. The Ladies meanwhile will hope to go one better than the last time these teams met and will be looking to get a win under their belts.
