Players of the Week

#13 Paul Hickey

#13 Carrie Lynch
Men’s Overall MVP
#5 Andy White
In just his second full start for Valencia, the rugby league convert had an outstanding day in the middle of the park. Although playing against more experienced opponents Paul fought hard for every ball both in the air and on the ground. The massive improvement in his hand-passing game was also evident as he was able to quickly clear the ball from danger areas to supporting team-mates.  The Glaswegian midfielder continued to demonstrate her aerial strength shown in round 1 in Seville.  A perpetual ball-winner from kick-outs, Carrie’s presence has given the women’s team a fantastic target playing who also has the ability to pull the ball down and break tackles before feeding her forward line or unleashing a powerful right boot.
Her performance in Barcelona saw her the clear winner in the team vote.
The Valencia men’s captain had an exceptional tournament and was deservedly named the tournament’s overall men’s MVP.
The second round saw a return to the half-forward line for Andy who had been residing in the defensive lines of late.  The move proved effective as he put over 5 points in two separate games while finishing with 11 points in total.  As noted by the referee in making the award, Andy’s consistency was a key to Valencia’s success on the day.
